Week EOC: The future of the internet

With just a few decades under its belt, the internet is always changing. I believe processing data or bits will be even faster than it is today. You could probably process the amount of bytes that it takes to download several DVDs or several hundred, for example, and have it finished within seconds. “The volume of mobile data traffic almost doubled from the second quarter of 2012 to the second quarter of 2013, and grew 14% between the first and second quarter of 2013.” http://www.akamai.com/dl/documents/akamai_soti_q213.pdf?WT.mc_id=soti_Q213. This goes to show the rise of mobile usage with phones and connectivity to the internet has raised by that much within a year. Imagine, in a few years you could transmit data just through your phone alone. You could send data through the internet to your doctor and he could diagnose you even with whatever without you even being there.  “Global broadband (>4 Mbps) adoption grew 11% to reach the 50% mark.” http://www.akamai.com/dl/documents/akamai_soti_q213.pdf?WT.mc_id=soti_Q213.  Broadband connection and mbps could increase even more within the next few years. Connection would be faster even from country to country. We could communicate with people much easier and those who use cameras could give or get a clearer image from computer to computer. Cross country businesses would be able to do all the work all from their home companies without even having to travel really. It’s all about sending and receiving data. Tech experts believe the vast quantities of data that humans and machines will be creating by the year 2020 could enhance productivity, improve organizational transparency.” http://www.pewinternet.org/Reports/2012/Future-of-Big-Data.aspx. Considering that 2020 is far into the future, I do believe that even a few years from now or decades that productivity and vast quantities of data will be increased. This is what I believe, in part; will happen with the future of the internet.

Week 9, Domain Setup

On week 9 we setup a domain name using one of the various sites to acquire the name. First we had to register a domain name which took some time onto itself. You had to find a name that was available and yet contained some kind of meaning for us, individually. I used blue host as one of the sites to create my domain name. After sorting through several names I was finally able use one that had some kind of meaning to the work I did. After that I then had to enter account information. After entering information such as name, address, and email address I then had to select a package deal. I could go a 12 month price up to a 6 month price with the latter being cheaper in price per month. After entering the one i wanted I was brought to the billing page where I had to enter my credit card number, expiration date, etc. I regrettably didn't get to finish the process to complete it but I'm quite sure that i would have control over the name after I had selected "Next" on the bottom of the page.

Week 6: There's an app for that

know where it came from or who was involved? Well my idea is to create a small description that would explain who was involved in the pic as best it can, where it came from (or site it originated from), who the author or artist was and where other images just like it can be found. Sure you could look at view image and see where that one image came from but you wouldn't know much more than that aside from the image size and the background color involved. With this app or method it could help cut down the amount of time it would take someone to actually find where the image originally came from and of course who the artist/photographer and if possible who the people involved were so they would have an idea of where to start. Sites looking to be in involved with a certain image or picture could request to have their site included in part of the description as a form of advertising in a way. That way people could know not only where the image came from originally but what other sites it would be involved with. Something like this would probably best work with search engines such as Google for example. Again, I feel like this is something that could help with people wanting ways of getting information faster on top of wanting it summarized.

Week 6 BOC: 5 tips to increase traffic to your website

1. Setup twitters account for clients so and constantly update it with recent and interesting news that would draw in clients. You can aim to get people to follow the client's interest by first focusing on the group of people that have the same thing in common with the client.

2. Find a forum group that shares a certain business with yours such as for example if you sell certain games as a product you could find a forum devoted to those kind of games and get clients through that.

3. Shameless self promoting can help garner attention as it shows value and quality to whatever your business or website is.

4. Using and exploiting google services to promote your website and/or product.

5. Build an opt in email address which unlike spam mail allows you to promote your business or site in bulk at the request of the visitor or customer. This would allow him or her to receive or see special offers or newsletters.

Week 5, Video Project

The assignment of creating a video and posting on youtube didn't exactly go as planned for many reasons. For one me and my partner didn't exactly have a full solid plan of what the 30 second video would be all about exactly. Sure we had an idea of what we wanted but our views on how we would go about doing it differed. We also didn't meet as much as we should to explain and talk about the project. Also i was indifferent about our idea during the later part of the week and was more interested in doing something that would garner a lot of attention and views. Something like a viral video i slowly began to draw away from the original idea we had at the start and wanted to make something different. I tried to do that project along with the one we were originally planning to do but i became split in both and again i didn't exactly communicate with my partner. For some odd reason during these past few weeks i have had a hard time focusing on much of anything really. It takes a lot of effort to keep myself targeted on one thing at a time and find myself thinking of many things at the same time. While i would be working on something i would almost immediately think of another project or homework that is due and jump on that then think of something else and jump on that just as quickly.

One way i found how two IP addresses can connect with each other is through a network. All computers of course connected through a network have different IP addresses. In order for two computers to connect you need to access one computer to another through a communication protocol or router table. A router table is basically the electronic table stored in routers or a network computer. It stores the routes to certain network destinations.

Analysis of Healthcare.gov

Accessing the health care site was easy enough but once you were on it then bombarded you with a front page with a mass amount of information. Sure finding the sign in and register button was easy but to find what you specifically wanted without having an account was the challenging part. Once i clicked on the register button it asked for information such as name, age and even asked you to create a username and password. Once that was finished it would then proceed to ask you to verify your account by which they sent a verification code to your email. You would then have to enter that code in and it would bring you back to the sign in page where you have to log in with your username and password. The issue i had with this was that the password had to be precise and even when i had placed in the password several times it still came up as me typing it wrong. Infuriating as it was, I had to change the password and I was finally able to access my account. The site brought me to my account in which I then had to navigate to find where to apply for health care plans. That wasn't entirely hard as they had a big button that said “Find plan”.

Once I clicked on it I was then asked to click on an option for whether it was for me or my family, company or clients. I clicked the one for me and family and then i was asked some more information such as my birth date, zip code, and annual income. This, however, seemed to ask more information on covered members which confused me. I was trying to apply as an individual and i kept being asked about covered members. Only after i entered my personal information i then had to put down something for covered members or it wouldn't let me continue with the application. Once that was entered I was brought to a screen where it told me if i was eligible or not for these plans. It seems the higher the income the lesser the chance from my perspective. The frustrating part was every time i left that part of the page and had to go back to “Find a plan” I had to continually enter my household information and covered members information again just to get to the health care plans.

Week 1 EOC,My Voice

I have been fascinated with Web Design ever since I was a teenager in high school. I indulged myself within the layout and positioning of text and images upon a homepage. Manipulating and control the code such as html was something I have always been fascinated with. Imagine, with just a few strings of code a person is able to create a masterpiece through the computer that garners attention and piques the interest of many. With this kind of technology and power in hand they are able to profit by marketing and selling products from producers to consumers all done through a website.  Through this fascination, I have become a student in my pursuit of knowledge not only through designing websites but also to study and analyze data. Designing homepages and forums were my main goals and what I wished to achieve but through recent study and the flow of information I now understand that my field of study branches out in many directions. Due to this enlightenment, my interests now lie with knowing more about leading and studying data through the various databases. As I recall, I remember my desires and wishes were to study Game Art a few years previously. It was a passion fueled by my enjoyment and love for drawing.
